Renew mission

The starting point for many organisations seeking to become more resilient is to renew mission. Typically this includes considering whether their mission and activities are still appropriate, particularly given a context of rapid technological and other change, and how they relate to and communicate with audiences and other external stakeholders especially about the value they deliver.

Questions to discuss

The following questions are designed to help you to work out which tools and approaches to explore from the selection available:

  • Is our mission still appropriate? Is it clear and immediately easy to understand?
  • Are our activities still appropriate to our mission/the best means of achieving it?
  • Are we still sufficiently distinctive? Are others now doing the same or similar things?
  • What’s the potential of technology to help us achieve our mission more effectively?
  • Are our activities attractive to our audience/participants/other stakeholders and how do we know this? What recent research/consultation have we undertaken with them?
  • How good is our evidence base? Are we collecting the right information about the outcomes and impact of our work?
  • Are we good at using this information to refine and develop what we do and how we do it?
